History On the Legislative Branch

Legislative history - Legislative history is any of various materials generated in the course of creating legislation, such as committee reports, analysis by legislative counsel, floor debates and histories of actions taken. Legislative history is used for discovering sources of information about the legislative intent.

North Dakota Legislative Assembly - The North Dakota Legislative Assembly is the legislative branch of the government of North Dakota. It consists of two legislative bodies, the North Dakota House of Representatives and the North Dakota Senate, as well as the Legislative Council and its support staff.

Fourth branch of government - In the American political system, the fourth branch of government refers to the growing collective of administrative agencies that exercise power officially reserved for the "first three" branches (or not reserved at all). Since the American Constitution specifically defines a three-branch model of governance (legislative, judicial, and executive), reference to the "fourth branch" is often a kind of rhetorical shorthand to illustrate the illegitimacy of certain types of governmental authority, and usually laden with skepticism towards whence such authority originates.

Kerala Legislative Assembly - The Kerala Legislative Assembly is the legislative branch of the Government of Kerala, one of the 28 states in India. The Assembly is formed by 140 elected representatives and one nominated member from the Anglo-Indian community.

On Capitol Hill: The Struggle to Reform Congress and Its Consequences, 1948-2000
Thirty years after the "Watergate Babies" promised to end corruption in Washington, Julian Zelizer offers the first major history of the demise of the committee-era Congress history on the legislative branch and the rise of the contemporary legislative branch. Based on research in more than a hundred archival collections, this book tackles one of the most enduring political challenges in America: barring a wholesale revolution, how can we improve our representative democracy so as best to fulfill the promises of the Constitution? Whereas popular accounts suggest that major scandals or legislation can transform government institutions, Zelizer shows that reform is messy, slow, history on the legislative branch and involves many institutions coming together at the right time. The short period of reform in the 1970s--one that rivaled the Progressive Era--revolved around a coalition that had worked for decades, a slow reconfiguration of the relationship among political institutions, shifts in the national culture, history on the legislative branch and the ability of reformers to take advantage of scandals history on the legislative branch and elections. Zelizer presents a new look at the origins of the partisanship history on the legislative branch and scandal warfare that characterize today's politics. The book also offers a warning to the next generation of reformers by showing how a new political environment can radically transform the political impact of government reforms, as occurred when the conservative movement--during its rise to power in recent decades--took advantage of reforms that had ended the committee era. Julian Zelizer teaches political history at the State University of New York at Albany. His book, Taxing America: Wilbur D. Mills, Congress, history on the legislative branch and the State, 1945-1975 (Cambridge, 1999), was awarded the Organization of American Historian's1998 D.B. Hardeman Prize. He is the co-editor of The Democratic Experiment (Princeton University Press, 2003) history on the legislative branch and the editor of The Reader's Companion to the American Congress (Houghton-Mifflin, forthcoming).

Constitutional Conflicts Between Congress and the President by Louis Fisher,

Constitutional Conflicts Between Congress and the President by Louis Fisher,
Nearly two decades after its initial publication, Louis Fisher's durable classic remains at the head of its class -- a book that Congressional Quarterly called "as close to being indispensable as anything published in this field". This newly revised history on the legislative branch and updated edition emphatically reinforces that sterling reputation. Fisher dissects the crucial constitutional disputes between the executive history on the legislative branch and legislative branches of government from the Constitutional Convention through the beginning of the Bush administration, venturing beyond traditional discussions of Supreme Court decisions to examine the day-to-day working relationships between the president history on the legislative branch and Congress. By analyzing a mixture of judicial pronouncements, executive acts, history on the legislative branch and legislative debates, Fisher pinpoints the critical areas of legislative-executive tension: appointment powers, investigatory powers, legislative history on the legislative branch and executive vetoes, the budgetary process, history on the legislative branch and war powers. He then examines these areas of tension within a concrete political history on the legislative branch and historical context. To scholars, this book offers a comprehensive examination of the institutions history on the legislative branch and issues of public law. For practitioners, general readers, history on the legislative branch and students of American government, it demonstrates how constitutional issues shape history on the legislative branch and define current events. Ought to be required reading for the President, for every member of congress, history on the legislative branch and for anyone who seeks to understand the subtle complexities of a constitutional arrangement that formally separates legislative from executive powers". -- Choice This book presents a set of issues, themes, questions, history on the legislative branch and arguments that will continue to be of fundamental interest to constitutional scholars in particular andpolitical scientists in general". -- George C. Edwards HI, author of Presidential Leadership.
